Matilda (Tilly-belle) Robinson Townsville Grammar School (North Ward Campus) Brother Oil paint on canvas 120 x 180 x 3 cm I’ve never been a big fan of putting an artist’s statement along with my work. I like to think my work can just be enjoyed, that people can connect to it without a paragraph about how it means something special. My picture is of my brother, painted from a photo I took after a day at the beach. I painted it because I wanted to. I feel like trying to say anything more about it will remove some of the ambiguity, the connection you can get from it by trying to figure out the person within it for yourself. Henry Rodgers Marist College Ashgrove Deceiving Complexion Thick oil paint on linen – applied with a pallet knife 91.5 x 91.5 x 3.5 cm The importance of expressing one's identity often escapes our mind, unintentionally leading to a false representation of who we are. I repeatedly find myself having to answer for my father's distant and Deceiving Complexion , as he is often caught in contemplation, expressing a detached and intimidating personality. I have conveyed this through my bold and intense painting style. However, in his dreamy gaze you can see who he truly is; a friendly giant showing his finest qualities to those he opens up to. Taking the time to be present with others gives people the ability to see beneath the surface.
