Jacinta Allen Mackay North State High School Clipboard Granny Ink, dye and fine line pen on wooden clipboard 18 x 46 x 4 cm Like the plethora of art merchandise available in gallery stores, here is the Granny Clipboard . The clipboard represents something that hangs on or is attached to me like my Gran, and like my Gran is to my heritage. The colours used are those of her retro-era house, and the fine lines contour her delicate, endearing wrinkles. For those afflicted, there's a journey through loneliness and isolation, leading to the build-up of emotions and finally the release of what was holding you back. In my work, the act of breathing symbolises that pivotal moment before getting on with life. I wanted the space between each image or moment to contain time. Without any background or distractions, going through the conscious act of breathing. It's just me. Emma Bugeja Mackay State High School Enough, yet... Single channel digital video: 1:34 minutes, sound, colour Enough, yet... targets the ideology that a woman’s importance is based on her physical appearance and judged against impossible beauty standards. Makeup is marketed as a tool to achieve these ever-changing standards, along with masking perceived flaws and quieting insecurities. This work consists of a series of overlaid film clips, compounding over time, each image morphing into the next and becoming more distorted. As I add and remove makeup, the question ‘Am I pretty enough yet?’ becomes more agitated, frantic and disjointed, resulting in the continuous and compounding deconstruction of my appearance.
