Kianah Davis St Mary's College (Ipswich) Fourth connections Relief print: silk cut lino 130 x 80 x 3 cm Art creates and connects us to our culture. This piece represents my connection to my Aboriginal heritage and country, which creates a sense of place. I am of Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung descent. The tree is my connection to the land and the footsteps represent my ancestors who walked the land before me. Through their guidance and wisdom my journey begins. The circles represent the ring of river stones from which my family conduct smoking ceremonies. Through this ceremony we discard the bad energy and cleanse our minds, bodies and spirits to be renewed for the future. Sarah Denman Brisbane State High School Un-Interactive Art Gallery Unity game engine: 6:56 minutes, colour Loneliness and isolation are overwhelming experiences despite their appearances. Inside a heartless concrete block you walk in silence, watching on. You’re surrounded by the world, but totally unable to touch or connect with it. The longer you spend inside this state, the harder it is to keep going. Your world collapses around you in a cacophony of light and sound, overwhelming but cathartic. Isabella Dillon Sandgate District State High School Chromoschino Resin and photography 150 x 100 x 50 cm Fertility can be a controversial topic in today’s society. The advancements in reproductive technologies cause one to contemplate morality and ethics. Chromoschino is an imagined glimpse into an exaggerated potential future for genetic modification. It is comprised of multiple layers of work — the product, the brand, the consumer, the creator — and invites the viewer to reflect on their own feelings about the existence of the sperm-like designer creatures. The soft, translucent bodies are embellished with sharp and beautiful ornaments, making them both beautiful and uncomfortable to look at. The narrative photographic sequence is dark and alluring to the consumer.
