Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Reconciliation Action Plan 59 OPPORTUNITIES As the state’s leading visual arts institution and a driver of cultural tourism, QAGOMA has great influence and potential to lead the promotion of opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities through benefit-sharing with communities, economic promotion and employment. Through its RAP, QAGOMA will generate economic and cultural opportunities using its procurement policies and by creating and maintaining employment opportunities for First Australians at QAGOMA, including the reduction of barriers to employment and improving access to professional development. Art is a key way Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples express their identity and transmit cultural heritage. Diverse experiences, knowledges and expressions of culture are Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP). Our firm advocates for the recognition of ICIP rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Working with QAGOMA on this RAP was an opportunity to promote and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and cultures by creating a reconciliation action plan that has ICIP rights at its heart.
